Traveler Note

Due to distance, construction, and congestion between Whidbey Island and Sea-Tac Airport we encourage east-bound travelers (statistically 97.34% of you) to stay over night Thursday locally or in Seattle, and plan your return travel for Friday, June 6th.

Driving from Sea-Tac Airport (~108 miles)

Depart Sea-Tac Airport and stay to the right. Follow signs for SR-518 (
Seattle, Tacoma, I-5, and I-405). Once on the ramp for SR-518, move to the left lane and in 1.4 miles exit to ramp I-5 NORTH toward Seattle. Drive north on I-5 for 80 miles to Exit 230 in Burlington. Take Exit 230, follow the off-ramp to the traffic signal and turn left onto SR-20 West. After you complete the left turn, move quickly into the right lane to stay on course for SR-20 West (otherwise you'll get stuck in a "Left Turn Only" lane).

Drive on SR-20
West heading toward Anacortes, go about 11.7 miles (over the bridge and past the casino). You'll come to a signal-controlled intersection with a sign indicating Oak Harbor is a left turn.... get into the left turn lane to go to SR-20 South headed for Whidbey Island and Oak Harbor. You have another 13 miles to go. You'll soon pass through Deception Pass State Park - you may want to take a short detour for some sightseeing or photos.

If you're going into the City of Oak Harbor just continue south down SR-20.

If you're going to the base, you'll turn
right on Ault Field Road at the signal-controlled T-intersection with an A-6E Intruder and EA-6B Prowler on display. Proceed down Ault Field Road and turn right at the the first stop light for Charles-Porter Gate, open 24 hours / 7 days. Or continue to the second stop light for Langley Blvd. Turn right onto Langley Blvd and drive down the hill to the Pass & Decal Office and to Langley Gate (commuter hours). Which gates are open depends upon on your day & time of arrival.

Washington State Ferries (WSF)

Taking a ferry is interesting and breaks up the long drive, but it can be a pain during our tourist season or during commuting hours. Check the WSF pages for schedules, prices, and additional information.
You will likely be most interested in the Mulkiteo-Clinton route.
